Drawing / Video Experiment

This is my first (and perhaps last but we’ll see) art video uploaded to the internet.
It came about when i was flicking back through my old sketchbooks. Coming across the one that these drawings are from, i remembered that around the time of their creation (july-ish 2011) that i was listening to Erik Satie quite a bit having just bought the CD and that the music had a curious effect on the drawings. As the notes slowly rippled from the CD player, the drawings seemed to ripple themselves. To use a cliche, they seemed to be coming to life. Of course not animated in the traditional sense, but they seemed to turn from pen and ink drawings into actual entities, living things that had stories, thoughts. It was like they were transformed from ‘drawings’ to ‘stills.’
It is fascinating how much a piece of music can add poignance and emotion to an object. Something about the solo piano sketch really seems to do it. The same happens with Satie’s ‘Gnossiennes,’ and with Debussy’s ‘Preludes.’ I guess how much it affects you will depend on how susceptible you are to daydreaming, or how emotionally sensitive you are, but just have a watch maybe twice and just see what the experience does. Its a hard thing to illustrate the feeling it gives in words so i’ll simply stop typing and hogging all your attention.
Judge for yourself whether its any good, or just a lot of sentimentality. Either way, i hope you enjoy!
